The second set of parents came in to do their duty and check
in on us, and of course our island paradise. As usual the White’s brought the
rain with them. No worries it was more
light misting in the early morning or “peeing
on us” (as Mrs. Dimarino called it later).
We had to show the parental s
a good time so we saddled up and rode the bus around the whole island. The jury
is still out whether Papa White’s butt was sore from the bus or jumping off the
cliff at Wiamea Bay.
After
a couple more days of chilling on the beach we sent our parents packing and
resumed the wanderlust life.
Makapuu lighthouse was the next stop on the hiking agenda.
The view and the lighthouse was breathtaking, but our favorite part was the
rock cliff hike down to the tidepools below. Beautiful blue water with white
crashing waves and tropical fish greeted us at the bottom.
Lunch and swimming for the afternoon was the perfect way to rest and re-coop. Work that night was exceptionally exciting because in the morning we were headed to the local pub to bring in the buckeye football season. Due to the time change games start at around 6am, a whole new twist on morning drinking. As soon as we walked in we were surrounded by the sites and sounds of Columbus Ohio, never felt more proud to be a buckeye. We quickly stripped off our scrubs to unveil full buckeyes gear and strapped our nuts around our necks. The crowd immediately welcomed us and we never felt more home. After the game we passed out hard from lack of sleep. We were awoken quickly by the invite for free dinner and classy establishment. In 10 minutes flat we made ourselves presentable and headed out. Mrs. D , Sara’s family friend, had us laughing over the menu because none of us could read and comprehend the items on it. However, it ended up being delicious! After they left more friends came in, just reminded us we know people all over the world. Sara’s friend , Adam, with his stalker skills on facebook found that we lived here and was going to be visiting for a couple days. Jenn’s friend, Matt, also a facebook stalker, boat was coming in from Alaska. Being that we have limited time and are so popular we had to join the two parties together for a fun filled night out on the town. Another travel nurse even joined and commented “WOW! You guys have so many friends!” What can we say we get around.
We decided that we still have so much to do and so little
time to do it, so we booked a trip to the Big Island. This was going to be a real BIG trip. We
couldn’t find anyone to give us a ride from work to the airport so we boarded
the city bus and prayed we made it in time. Halfway there the bus abruptly
stopped and it smelled like burnt toast. Luckily the bus driver fixed the
problem and we were on the road again. The flight over was uneventfull so we let
the exploring begin.
We decided we need a cold beer to we headed straight to
the Kona brewery, the tour was at 1030 and 3. When we asked to be on the 1030
tour the hostess politely told us it was 1130 so “NO”…the tired delusional mind
was starting to kick in. We filled in the time by heading Kona coffee for free
tasting and then to the beach for a nap.
After a few beers we realized we had
no place to sleep so hostel hunting we went. The only place we found had ONE
twin, top bunk, and two pillows for $50 bucks. SOLD to the two dumbasses in
scrubs! Maybe we had more to drink than we thought.
The houseguests were friendly, but we may have been the only 2 people there with a job, but how can we judge when we crawled into a twin bed together. WE can only imagine what they thought of us.

After sleeping like
babies we headed to Volcano National park.
Along the way we stopped to see the different colored beaches. Black and
green are the two here, We also stepped
foot on the southern most point of the US..which is not Key West!
Volcano
National Park was a serious let down, with no spewing lava ANYWHERE. The most
you can see is a soft red glow in the freezing cold night. It is taking a lot
to impress us these days. We upgraded our living to an entire house for the
same price we payed at the hostel. A cute little bed and breakfast with a King
Bed!
The next day was Hilo. Is all we can say about this is thank you Jesus we
never took the job in Hilo. Rain, rain and more rain and no beach would have
pushed us into complete depression. We saw some waterfalls, valleys, and ate
local food…basically that’s all Hilo has to offer. Our favorite highlight of
Hilo was the Mac Nut factory and the unlimited free samples. We left there full
of nuts!
The next 24 hours turns
disastorous. We tried to catch the late
flight out, but couldn’t. We tried to find a place to stay, but nothing fit our
price range. We did some brainstorming and the best thing we came up with was
to sleep in our rental car. We shopped around for the best/darkest lot around.
Target was not open 24/7 but we did some new clothes there. K-mart had a poor
chip selection, but we found cheap ones and got a pizza. The paring lot was a
little sketchy so we moved on. We stumbled into a wal-mart and fell in love. We
tidied up the back seat so it wouldn’t like we were living out of car.
We finished the night with a pizza party and live entertainment across the lot..FREE dinner, show, and lodging, Wal-Mart really does have it all. We woke up and decided we haven’t hit all the free shit places on the island, so we headed to Kona Joe’s for coffee sampling. One last sweet tooth fix at Donkey Balls for chocolate covered EVERYTHING was well worth the stop. Then it was off to the airport. We made it in plenty of time, which is abnormal for us so we hung out for apparently a little to long. When we showed up to the gate they said we had missed the window of opportunity and our flight was overbooked so we missed out! We were very unhappy campers and we will let you know what comes from our frustrations and stress. HAHA. All in all it was true to form for a Sara and Jenn trip….
